An attractive vintage English cricket bat by Stuart Surridge & Co Ltd of London, dating to around the 1960s and retaining a particularly good collection of original maker's markings.
The blade carries the firm's Wellington trademarks together with Stuart Surridge branding, Rapidrive markings and a prominent “RE BLADE” stamp, indicating that the bat was professionally rebladed during its working life. Surridge actually began as a cricket-bat repair business before developing into one of Britain's important bat manufacturers, making the reblade history particularly appropriate to the company.
The reverse retains an original circular red SS Stuart Surridge paper label, while alongside it is an old handwritten inscription reading “F. R. G. Lloyd 1964”.
The bat has a traditional cane handle with old binding and grip remnants and shows the expected marks, staining, knocks and surface wear from genuine use and age. The original branding remains very readable and it has excellent decorative presence as a piece of vintage British sporting history.
