A replica of an ancient Mexican sculptor of Colima Dancing Dogs (see below) in excellent condition. Made in Mexico. (Perhaps the most emblematic clay work in Colima today is the sculpting of dancing dogs. Xoloitzcuintle is a native Mexican breed of dog – peaceful, loyal and... hairless. In pre-Hispanic mythology, these animals were said to guide the dead on their journey to the Hereafter. Usually, these dogs were buried in their masters' tombs. Ceramic effigies of these animals have been produced in Colima for a staggering 2000 years. The dogs usually come in pairs and in different positions, from standing to curled up or in a sleeping pose; but the most enigmatic and, above all, the most beloved representation is the “dancing dogs”.) Height 8" (21cm)
