A particularly good-quality vintage reproduction after Itzchak Tarkay, depicting one of the artist’s instantly recognisable elegant female figures seated beside an exuberant arrangement of flowers.

The image has excellent depth of colour and a convincing painterly surface, with rich turquoise, cobalt, burgundy, ochre and green tones that give it considerable presence in person. The reproduction captures Tarkay’s characteristic combination of simplified forms, strong outlines and sophisticated decorative colour extremely well.

The subject is especially appealing, with the seated woman, elaborate interior and large floral arrangement creating a wonderfully theatrical composition. It has a distinctly late 20th-century European feel and would work very well in a maximalist, eclectic or colourful interior.
