A wonderfully characterful vintage leather-covered travel suitcase, likely dating from the 1930s or 1940s. The case retains an evocative collection of original hotel, shipping and railway luggage labels from a period of European and ocean travel.
Visible labels include Hotel Alcron in Prague, Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg, Bellevue Dresden and a P&O S.S. Strathmore cabin label. Several further labels survive in partial or fragmentary condition, giving the suitcase an authentic well-travelled appearance.
The case is constructed with a stitched and riveted brown leather covering, reinforced metal corner mounts, a leather carrying handle and its original catches and lock fittings. It would make an excellent decorative storage trunk, shop display, photography prop or atmospheric addition to a vintage interior.
There is extensive wear consistent with age and travel, including scratches, rubbing, stains, surface cracking, fading, knocks and losses to the labels. The handle and fittings also show considerable wear.
Measures approximately 70 cm wide × 40 cm tall × 19 cm deep / 27.6 × 15.7 × 7.5 inches.
