Vintage silver-plated jewellery box with birds and blossom from Japan. A charming rectangular trinket box in the Japonisme taste, worked in crisp repoussé with long-tailed birds perched among cherry blossom on a finely stippled ground.

The decoration continues around the sides, the box stands on neat bracket feet, and the hinged lid opens to a padded scarlet velvet interior. No hallmarks present so it is offered as silver plate rather than solid silver. The surface shows a gentle, even patina with light rubs on the high points and some age-related wear to the lining.

A lovely, display-ready box for rings and keepsakes on desk or dressing table.
