A wonderful vintage figure of Nipper, the famous dog associated with the His Master's Voice / HMV trademark.
The substantial seated figure depicts Nipper with his characteristic white body, dark ears and black studded collar, standing on an integral black base. It is made from a heavy, dense moulded material, most likely an early plastic or composition, rather than ceramic. There is no obvious mould seam visible.
Probably dating from the early to mid 20th century, the figure has the appearance of the larger promotional Nipper models produced for record dealers and advertising displays. The exact maker and date are unknown, and there are no visible factory markings to the underside.
Nipper became one of the most recognisable images associated with recorded music following Francis Barraud's painting His Master's Voice, and figures such as this were widely used to promote gramophones, records and HMV products.
A particularly decorative piece of vintage music memorabilia and an excellent display object for a record collection, music room or eclectic interior.
