A lovely vintage J.J. Blow No. 20 hand-operated butter churn, made in England and dating to around the 1940s. The churn has a substantial square glass jar fitted with its original screw-top mechanism, red painted gear housing, wooden crank handle and internal wooden paddle.
The glass is embossed “Blow Butter Churn No. 20 – Made in England”, while the mechanism is marked “Blow – British Regd 856612”. This model is documented as a circa-1940s British butter churn, with the registration number and construction matching other known examples.
A particularly nice example retaining considerable original character, including the wonderfully faded remains of its original paper label. The red-painted mechanism has attractive age-related wear and the metalwork has developed a mellow patina.
A great piece of traditional British kitchenalia, equally appealing as a functional historical object or as a decorative piece for a kitchen, café or country-house interior.
