A substantial Victorian edition of The Pilgrim’s Progress and Other Select Works by John Bunyan, with a preface and memoir of the author by John S. Roberts.

Published by Adam & Co. Limited of Newcastle-on-Tyne, this impressive oversized volume features a decorative illustrated title page and a series of finely produced colour plates. Comparable Adam & Co. editions are generally dated to the 1870s–1880s, and this copy contains a handwritten ownership inscription dated 1883.

The book retains its original elaborately decorated blue cloth boards, with ornate geometric borders and pictorial decoration to the front and spine. The faded and heavily worn binding gives it a wonderfully atmospheric appearance, making it particularly appealing as a decorative library or interior piece.

The condition is considerably worn, with fading, rubbing and extensive losses to the cloth covering, particularly around the spine, corners and edges. There is age-related discolouration, foxing and marking internally. The book has not been fully collated and is offered as seen, although the pages and illustrated plates inspected remain visually impressive.
