A handsome late 19th century Victorian tea caddy, dating to around 1870–1890. The rectangular mahogany case is decorated with fine brass stringing and stylised foliate inlay, picked out against dark ebonised detailing to the front and lid.
The hinged outer lid opens to reveal two original individual tea compartments, each with its own lift-off lid and turned wooden knob. The compartment lids and inside of the main lid are finished with an attractive figured burr veneer, giving the interior considerably more decoration than most plainer Victorian caddies.
A very attractive decorative box in its own right as well as a recognisable piece of Victorian tea-drinking history.
There is general surface wear, marking and patination consistent with age, some of the brass inlay is missing.
