A particularly attractive mid-19th century Victorian tea caddy, circa 1850–1870, veneered in richly figured walnut with a gently domed top and contrasting dark edging.
The hinged lid opens to reveal the original-style twin tea compartments, each with its own fitted domed wooden lid, turned brass knob and pale contrasting border. One compartment retains its metal lining, visible in the photographs. The caddy also retains its lock and key.
The figuring across the front and domed lid is especially nice, with lots of movement and variation in the grain. There are the expected small marks and signs of age, but overall it presents very well and is considerably more complete than many surviving tea caddies of this type.
