A handsome Victorian burr walnut tea caddy dating to the second half of the 19th century. The rectangular caddy is veneered in richly figured burr walnut, bordered with contrasting crossbanding and dark edging which gives the relatively simple form a particularly smart appearance.
The hinged lid opens to reveal two separate tea compartments, each with its own fitted wooden lid and small turned knob. Beneath the lids the compartments retain their traditional metal lining, originally intended to help keep the tea dry and fresh.
There is a central keyhole to the front, although no key is present. The caddy displays beautifully, with a warm aged colour and attractive variation throughout the burr veneer. There are the expected minor marks and signs of age, but overall it remains a very decorative and complete example.
