A handsome Victorian sarcophagus tea caddy dating to the late 19th century, beautifully made with striking figured hardwood and standing on turned bun feet. The caddy features decorative brass lion mask carrying handles to each side and retains its original twin internal tea compartments with matching lids.
The central aperture originally housed a removable glass mixing bowl, now absent, as is commonly found. The original lock remains in place although the key is no longer present. These omissions do little to detract from what is a wonderfully decorative and functional example.
The rich figuring of the wood, elegant proportions and classic form make this an excellent piece for display, storage or as part of a collection of antique tea wares.
Condition is good antique condition with age-related wear, light surface marks and the expected signs of use. The original mixing bowl and key are not present.
Measures approximately 31 cm long × 20 cm wide × 16 cm high (12.2 × 7.9 × 6.3 inches).
