A classic British Post Office 232 desk telephone in glossy black Bakelite with the distinctive pyramid profile, sloped rotary dial and pull-out number card drawer. The little metal plate above the dial carries the period switch legend “Bell On — Call Main — Bell Off”, a nice hint of its manual-exchange past. The braided cloth handset cord, chrome finger wheel and original index drawer give it that authentic 1930s look that reads instantly Art Deco and old-money study.
This set displays beautifully with a deep shine and light age wear: small scuffs and handling marks to the Bakelite, minor dulling to the chrome, and a handwritten number card from later service tucked in the drawer. The dial spins and returns crisply; no further functions have been tested and, as with most 232s, an external bellset and proper wiring are typically needed for telephone use. Sold as a decorative or prop piece unless you choose to have it converted.
Trend note: perfect for Art Deco revival interiors, dark-academia shelving and vintage office styling; it brings movie-prop presence to a desk or drinks tray.
