A lovely 1920's chair, a Thonet design made by Fischel in Czechoslovakia. Solid and in good condition.

David Fischel founded DG Fischel & Son in Neimes, Czechoslovakia making bentwood furniture when the original patent registered by Michael Thonet expired in 1871. His son has actually worked for Thonet and by 1913 the company had expanded to work in Vienna too. Their chairs were mostly used in bars and cafes.

Classic café chairs with looped backs and pressed sunburst seats, full of old-world charm and that Parisian bistro silhouette. Warm, dark patina to the beech with lovely age to the bentwood hoops; two seats retain the sunburst embossing while the third shows honest wear from decades of service. One chair carries a paper retailer label reading Brenner. A handsome, usable trio for kitchen, wine bar, or studio.

All three are sturdy and sit well with the usual knocks, scuffs and finish wear you expect from vintage café chairs. Seats and backs are sound; surfaces show colour variation and small nicks, adding to the character. Sold as a set of three.
