A handsome English Salter’s “Improved Family Scale” No. 50, circa 1900, in cast iron with its original tin pan. The circular dial reads to 14 lb and carries the classic Salter typography—“Warranted Accurate”—with the zeroing thumb adjuster to center.
Condition is authentically timeworn with a pleasing, dark patina to the iron, age fade and spotting to the dial, and surface oxidation and marks to the pan. From the tape in the photos, the pan measures about 20 cm (approx. 7⅞") in diameter. Displays beautifully on a pantry shelf or island and fits right into cottagecore, farmhouse, and industrial styling.
There is a part of the bowl missing that helps secure the bowl to the scale so the bowl is not securely attached. See photos
