This is a matched pair of hand painted Japanese export vases dating to the early 20th century, in a classic satsuma-style crackle glaze with richly detailed figural panels. Each vase shows elegant women in layered kimono with attendants and children in garden and riverside scenes, with fine gilt work and enamelled patterning. The shoulders, rims, and bases are finished in deep cobalt blue with gold maple leaf decoration, giving them that high-contrast “old world salon” look that sits perfectly with maximalist, antique-inspired interiors. Both vases are signed in red on the base.
There is allover age crazing to the glaze (desirable on this type), some light rubbing to the gilt in places, and general surface wear from age, but no obvious cracks or repairs. They stand approximately 24 cm tall, which is about 9.5 inches, and display beautifully together on a mantel, console, or in a cabinet.
