A handsome antique Japanese bronze vase dating to the late Meiji period, decorated in relief with a songbird perched amongst flowering branches and bamboo. The design is executed in low relief against a rich dark patinated ground, creating a refined and understated composition typical of Japanese art metalwork produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The vase has an elegant baluster form and displays beautifully from all angles. The deep brown-black patina has developed attractively over time and complements the delicate naturalistic decoration. A maker's mark is present to the underside.
Japanese bronze vases of this period remain highly sought after for their quality of casting, restrained aesthetic, and ability to work equally well within traditional, Japandi, wabi-sabi, and contemporary interiors. The bird and blossom motif reflects the Japanese appreciation of nature and seasonal beauty that characterises much Meiji decorative art.
Measures approximately 28cm high (11 inches).
Condition is good overall with age-related wear, surface marks, and patina consistent with age and use. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
