Yoshitsuya was one of the important pupils of Utagawa Kuniyoshi and became particularly known for his dramatic warrior and historical subjects.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe print comes from Yoshitsuya’s series Genke Yūshō Kagami — Mirror of Brave Generals of the Minamoto Clan — produced around 1843. Yoritomo is depicted seated in elaborate armour, with Mount Fuji appearing in the landscape vignette behind him. The original Japanese inscriptions, series cartouche and Yoshitsuya signature remain clearly visible.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePresented in a later black frame with a wide white mount. The print shows considerable genuine age, including overall toning and discolouration, scattered staining, creasing and several small holes and surface marks, particularly towards the upper portion.
