Fantastic original French advertising poster for Favor Cycles & Motos of Clermont-Ferrand, designed by French graphic artist Jean Prunière (1901–1944).
Dating to circa 1930, the wonderfully bold design depicts a racing cyclist alongside a motorcycle, surrounded by oversized Favor lettering and a striking red striped background. The limited red, blue and cream palette gives it a particularly strong Art Deco graphic quality.
Signed Jean Prunière within the image and printed by Imprimerie Générale, Clermont-Ferrand. The French national heritage catalogue records this design as a 1930 photomechanical offset poster measuring approximately 50 x 50 cm.
This is an original period print rather than a modern reproduction and is presented in its black painted wooden frame. A superb piece of early French cycling and motorcycle advertising, and a very decorative piece of interwar graphic design.
The print has some light creasing consistent with age, although this is fairly subtle when displayed and does not detract significantly from the image. There is some general age-related surface wear and toning. Please see photographs for condition.
Overall framed dimensions approximately 55 x 55 cm / 21.7 x 21.7 inches.
