Original French advertising poster for Favor Cycles & Motos, designed by Jean Prunière in 1927.
A superb piece of interwar graphic design depicting a racing cyclist pursued by a motorcycle rider, both projected forward over dramatic blue speed lines against a vivid yellow ground. The bold red FAVOR lettering and wonderfully simplified figures give the poster a particularly strong early Art Deco appearance.
Signed and dated “Jean Prunière 27” within the upper right of the image and printed by Gaillard, Paris-Amiens, whose name appears along the lower margin. This is an original period poster rather than a modern reproduction. Contemporary and specialist records identify this design as Prunière's 1927 advertising poster for Favor's luxury bicycles and motorcycles.
Favor was a French manufacturer based around Clermont-Ferrand, producing bicycles and motorcycles during the first half of the 20th century. The wonderfully dynamic design captures the fascination with speed, cycling and motorised transport that characterised French advertising during the interwar period.
Presented behind glass in a bright yellow painted wooden frame which works particularly well with the original colour palette.
The poster shows genuine age-related wear including scattered spotting and staining, surface marks, areas of rubbing and some small creases and imperfections, particularly around the margins. There is also general wear and small paint losses to the frame. Despite this, the colours remain strong and the image displays extremely well. Please see photographs for condition.
