Characterful single guardian lion (foo dog) in richly variegated turquoise, jade-green and cobalt glazes with a fine craquelure. The modelling is crisp—curled mane, bared teeth and powerful paws—typical of South China Shiwan-style pottery. Early to mid-20th century. A lovely palm-sized decorative piece for a mantle, bookcase or altar grouping.
Approx size: 12.5cm high x 13.5cm long x 7cm deep. Condition is good vintage: no structural cracks; minor glaze rubs and firing specks from manufacture, with gentle age wear consistent with display.
