Beautiful antique bronze Japanese Koro Censer / incense burner in the shape of a perched eagle. I believe made in the Meiji period or earlier. This is a very high quolity bronze with some exceptional detail.
The Koro would have been made using the loss wax technique where the sculpture is first made from wax, a mould cast around the wax and then the wax replaced with molten bronze.
There is some historic damage to the edge of the base, a small chip that can bee seen on the photos.
