The painting depicts a young woman standing within a softly rendered interior, with her figure repeated in a large mirror behind her. Painted in a restrained palette of pale blue, green, ochre and warm flesh tones, the composition has a wonderfully quiet and atmospheric quality.

Greer handles the principal figure with considerably more definition than the surrounding room and reflected image, allowing the background to dissolve into broad translucent passages of colour. The mirrored figure is particularly effective, giving the painting a strong sense of depth while retaining the loose, painterly quality of the work as a whole.

Maggie Greer was active within the Scottish art world during the early 1980s and exhibited at the Abacus Gallery in Edinburgh. Her surviving work includes landscapes, still lifes and figure studies, with a number of known paintings dating from the first half of the 1980s.

The reverse of the canvas bears a faint inscription relating to the artist. Presented in a narrow painted frame.

Good vintage condition overall with general surface wear, marks and small imperfections consistent with age. There is some wear and minor paint loss around the edges of the canvas and frame. Please see photographs for condition.
