A handsome Regency style convex “butler’s” mirror, dating to the early 20th century and designed in the tradition of the classic Regency bullseye mirrors of the early 19th century. The mirror features a gently domed convex plate surrounded by a studded gilt frame and contrasting dark inner moulding, a design originally used in grand houses so servants could discreetly observe activity within a room.
Convex mirrors like this became an iconic feature of Regency interiors, valued both for their decorative impact and their distinctive reflective quality. The domed glass produces the characteristic wide-angle “bullseye” reflection, adding depth and atmosphere when hung above a fireplace, console or within a layered gallery wall. Today these mirrors remain highly sought after for heritage interiors, old money styling, dark academia spaces and classic English country house decor.
The frame shows age-related wear consistent with an antique piece, including surface marks, small scuffs and rubbing to the gilt-painted finish. The rear retains its wooden backing and hanging chain, and the convex mirror plate shows light character and wear from age visible in the photographs. Overall it presents very well and remains a striking decorative wall mirror.
Diameter: 65 cm
