An original 1948 first edition of Verve – Revue Artistique et Littéraire, Volume VI, Numbers 21 and 22, published in Paris by Éditions de la Revue Verve under the direction of Tériade. This important double issue is devoted entirely to works produced by Henri Matisse at Vence between 1944 and 1948.

The volume includes two original colour lithographs printed by Mourlot: the bold yellow lithographed wrapper and a colour lithographic frontispiece. It is further illustrated with 24 full-page colour plates and approximately 40 pages of Matisse’s distinctive black line drawings and decorative compositions. French-language edition.

A particularly striking and highly collectible Matisse publication, combining vivid reproductions of his paintings with fluid line drawings and the bold organic forms of the lithographed cover. It would make a superb addition to a collection of modern art books, original printmaking or mid-century art publications.

The book measures approximately 36 × 27 × 1 cm, or 14.2 × 10.6 × 0.4 inches.

Presented in good vintage condition. The original yellow wrapper displays age-related toning, surface marks, light rubbing, spotting and wear around the edges and corners. The photographed internal pages remain bright and attractive with only light age-related toning.
