Excellent gilded bronze statue of Hindu goddess Dewi Sri wearing traditional head dress.
Made using the ancient lost wax process in which the figure is first crafted from wax, a mould formed around the wax, the wax melted and emptied and then molten bronze poured into the cavity.
Dating from around circa 1930, the statue is free from damage and has a lovely patina.

Dewi Sri is the goddess of rice and fertility. She is honoured across many parts of South East Asia where rice forms the staple diet. Shrines to her are constructed in wet rice fields and offerings made at important times in the harvest cycle.
