Evocative early 20th-century galvanised and painted metal ice box, likely used aboard ship and bearing the worn green decal of the British India Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. Constructed with double-wall insulation, a galvanised interior and a removable tray behind a drop-front, this was a working cooler or provisions chest—possibly from a cabin or officers’ mess rather than standard cargo.
Retains its original white paint with hand-stencilled lettering “ICE BOX 6”, side carry handles and front clasp. Beautifully aged surface with honest wear, oxidation and maritime character. Structurally sound and entirely original throughout. A wonderful piece of shipboard utility design that now serves as a striking bar, log bin, side table or storage chest.
Measures 35 × 49.5 × 39 cm (13.8 × 19.5 × 15.4 in).
