A fantastic brass Nataraja dating from the early 20th century and originating from South India. The piece encapsulates the cosmic dance of creation, preservation, and dissolution, capturing a moment of divine balance and grace. Nataraja, an incarnation of Lord Shiva, represents the cosmic dance, a symbolic art form that depicts five activities (Pancha Krityas). Shiva (the destroyer) is featured dancing atop the dwarf demon Apasmara, who represents spiritual ignorance, encapsulated within a ring of fire.

In good condition with a lovely rich patina.

Dimensions: 21cm / 8.5" tall
