A handsome early 20th-century wall barometer in the classic banjo form, carved in quarter-sawn oak with scrollwork cresting and flower detail. The circular aneroid dial sits behind a brass bezel, calibrated “Stormy – Rain – Change – Fair – Very Dry,” with an adjustable pointer and the original convex glass. Above is a working spirit thermometer behind a beveled glaze. A brass presentation plaque reads “John Fletcher … by the B.B.A … on his leaving the district – 30-12-19,” giving lovely provenance and date. Rear brass keyhole plate for easy hanging; a richly grained case with deep, old colour that suits dark-academia libraries and “old money” hallways perfectly.
Condition is decorative and timeworn. The dial glass has a visible crack; the case shows knocks, small losses and age polish; thermometer present; barometer responds to pressure changes but has not been calibrated for accuracy and is sold as a decorative antique. Presents beautifully on the wall.
