A beautiful pair of bronze squirrel bookends by French sculptor Max Le Verrier (1891-1973). Made circa 1930.
Known for his stylized Art Deco statues Max Le Verrier had his own workshop where he also collaborated with other artists such as Pierre Le Faguays, Marcel Bouraine and others. He had his own recipe for his metal alloy and also used a very characteristic green patina.
These bookends have a heavy metal original pedestal and are both signed.
There are a couple of dings and small cracks that I've done my best to highlight in the photographs. Both squirrels have also suffered damage to an ear each which I had professionally repaired at a bronze workshop. None of the damage is very noticeable and they still look great.
