An attractive antique hand-knotted wool rug, believed to originate Azerbaijan dating to the early 20th century.
The rug features a large geometric diamond medallion surrounded by intricate stylised floral and geometric motifs, enclosed within multiple decorative borders. Its beautifully faded palette combines deep indigo blue, muted terracotta, soft peach, ivory and touches of green.
The rug has acquired a wonderfully aged appearance over many decades, with extensive wear revealing the underlying structure of the weaving and giving the colours a soft, subdued character.
Condition: Heavily worn and distressed, with several substantial tears and splits, areas of missing pile, fraying and losses around the edges, and general wear throughout.
