A characterful antique oak storage box, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The long rectangular form is decorated across the front with hand-cut chevron and linear markings, giving it an appealing folk art quality.
The hinged lid is fitted with a small brass carrying handle, while the front retains its original keyhole. The interior is left plain and offers a useful open compartment for letters, documents, keepsakes, artists’ materials or small collectables.
The oak has developed a rich, warm colour and wonderfully aged surface. There are numerous scratches, knocks, darkened areas, old marks and general wear from use.
Measures approximately 34 cm wide × 14 cm deep × 8 cm tall / 13.4 × 5.5 × 3.1 inches.
