A handsome antique copper jardiniere or planter dating to around the late 19th century. The simple cylindrical body has a warm polished copper surface, rolled upper and lower rims and a pair of decorative ring handles mounted on embossed rosette backplates.

The interior is tinned, a traditional practical treatment for copper vessels, and retains a pleasing aged grey surface. The understated form and darkened copper patina give it a particularly good decorative look – substantial enough for a plant while also working well as a centrepiece, storage vessel or simply as an object in its own right.

There is general surface wear, scratching, tarnishing and patination consistent with age and use. The interior shows further age-related wear and oxidation. Overall it has a very attractive, genuine aged appearance.
