A handsome Victorian wooden box dating from the 19th century, with attractive figured grain and brass edging running around the corners and edges. The simple rectangular form and extensive brass binding give it a particularly good travelling or campaign-era appearance.

The box was very likely originally made as a fitted travelling writing box, although the original internal fittings are no longer present, so I am offering and describing it simply as an antique wooden box. The interior is now open and usable for general storage, with remnants and wear from its previous fittings visible inside.

The original brass lock and small circular keyhole fitting remain to the front. The exterior has a wonderfully aged surface with mellow colour, patination to the brass and the knocks, marks and wear expected from a Victorian piece that has seen considerable use.
