A handsome antique Victorian glove box dating to around the second half of the 19th century, constructed from richly figured dark hardwood with an elegant rounded or domed lid.
The box is decorated with brass edging, a rectangular brass cartouche to the lid and a shaped brass key escutcheon to the front. The hinged lid opens to reveal a red fabric-lined interior, making it equally suitable today as a jewellery, keepsake or dressing-table box.
The long, narrow proportions and domed form are characteristic of Victorian glove boxes, which were designed to store ladies' gloves and other personal accessories.
Good antique condition with plenty of age-related character. There are scratches, rubbing, small knocks and general surface wear throughout. Sections of the original brass edging are missing, particularly around the ends and corners, with further minor lifting and wear to the remaining brass.
