The central column is telescopic, allowing the height to be adjusted, while the long articulated brass arm can be swung into position and secured with the original thumb screws.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe wooden book rest is mounted on an adjustable brass joint so that its angle can also be altered. Small brass supports to the front and sides are designed to retain a book, document or sheet music while in use.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThese ingenious freestanding reading stands were produced during the Victorian period for use beside chairs, desks and beds, and could equally be used as lecterns or music stands. A particularly decorative and functional piece of Victorian furniture, with lovely untouched patination to the brass and iron.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eGood antique condition with general surface wear, marks, oxidation and patination throughout consistent with age and use. The various adjustable components appear substantially complete.
