A striking antique cast bronze figure depicting Cundi Bodhisattva, also known as Zhunti Guanyin, one of the esoteric manifestations of Guanyin in East Asian Buddhism.
Cundi is instantly recognisable by her eighteen arms, which radiate dramatically around the seated figure and carry an array of ritual implements and symbolic objects. She sits in meditation upon a double lotus pedestal, wearing an elaborate crown and jewellery, with finely modelled robes and a calm, contemplative expression.
The figure has a wonderful dark brown patina with the remains of gold gilding, giving the surface considerable depth and character. The underside is open and retains reddish material from the casting process.
Sino Tibetan and dating from the 19th century.
Presented in good vintage condition with surface wear, oxidation and variation to the patina consistent with age. Please study the photographs carefully as these form part of the description.
Measures approximately 18 cm / 7.1 in high.
