A well-worn but striking example of a railway guard’s hand lamp, likely from the early 20th century. Made from tinplate with a pierced base, hinged side door and carry handle. The large bullseye lens front opens to reveal the internal burner and red filter lens still in place. Shows considerable surface rust, but all key parts are present, including the burner unit, reflector, and handle. The hinged chimney cap and original red glass lens are both intact.
These were commonly used on British railways for signalling and inspection purposes. This one, though unrestored, has strong display appeal and an authentic patina.
Dimensions:
Height: 34cm (13.4") to top of handle
Width: approx. 13cm (5.1")
Depth: approx. 20cm (7.9")
