A wonderfully evocative antique railway signalling instrument comprising a mahogany wall-mounted case with a brass bell and engraved brass plaque reading "TRAIN ARRIVED AT No.2 SIGNAL." Dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian period, this would have been used in a railway signal box or station office as part of a block signalling or train arrival notification system.
The solid mahogany case houses the original mechanical mechanism with an external pull cord and substantial spun brass bell mounted beneath. The engraved brass plaque is beautifully executed and gives the piece exceptional decorative appeal, making it instantly recognisable as an authentic piece of railway history.
Original railway signalling equipment has become increasingly sought after by collectors of railwayana, industrial antiques and transport memorabilia, while also making striking decorative pieces for home bars, offices, libraries and loft interiors. The combination of warm mahogany, polished brass and genuine railway provenance gives this piece tremendous display presence.
The indicator is in good antique condition with an attractive aged patina throughout. The timber case shows expected wear, marks and minor knocks consistent with age and service, while the brass retains a rich mellow finish. The mechanism appears complete, although it is being sold as a decorative antique and has not been tested in service. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
