A particularly attractive antique oak smokers' cabinet dating from the early 20th century, circa 1900–1920.
The cabinet has a warm medium oak finish with attractive figuring to the drawer fronts and is unusually decorative for this type. It features a pierced and carved crest above a pair of glazed doors, three small fitted drawers with ornate brass handles, and a larger open compartment with shaped dividers and shelves originally intended for pipes, tobacco jars and smoking accessories.
The combination of glazed display doors, decorative brass fittings and compact architectural form makes this a lovely decorative cabinet in its own right. Today it could equally be used for jewellery, curios, watches, miniature collections or other small objects rather than its original purpose.
The cabinet remains in good antique condition overall with the expected surface marks and wear associated with age and use. There is no key, and the internal catch which should hold the left-hand door closed is missing. The cabinet otherwise presents very well, with the drawers operating correctly and the glass intact.
33 cm wide × 47 cm tall × 20 cm deep (approx. 13 × 18.5 × 7.9 inches).
