A charming antique miniature chest of drawers dating to around the late 19th or early 20th century, constructed in oak and mixed hardwoods with two useful full-width drawers.
The drawer fronts have an attractive warm golden grain and are fitted with decorative pierced metal backplates and drop ring handles. The simple architectural form, overhanging top and contrasting darker side timbers give it the appearance of a full-sized period chest reduced to desktop proportions.
Most likely made as a small desktop or personal storage chest, although pieces of this type are also commonly described as apprentice chests or miniature furniture. Ideal for jewellery, stationery, photographs, artist's materials or simply as a decorative piece.
Good antique condition with the expected knocks, scratches, colour variation and wear from age and use. There is some roughness and an old small loss/repair to the rear lower corner, visible in the photographs. Both drawers open and close correctly.
Measures 28 × 19.5 × 22 cm / 11 × 7.7 × 8.7 inches.
