A characterful Maxitone portable wind-up gramophone, dating from approximately the 1920s–1930s. The gramophone is housed within its original black textured carrying case, complete with winding handle, internal turntable, soundbox and fitted carrying handle.
The mechanism is in good working order and plays through the built-in acoustic sound system without requiring electricity. It is supplied with two period 78 RPM records, making it ready to display and enjoy.
The inside of the lid retains the original Maxitone trademark and registration markings. The case shows plenty of authentic age-related wear, including rubbing, scratches, scuffs, fading and tarnishing to the metal fittings. The carrying handle also shows wear but remains attached.
A wonderful decorative and functional piece of early audio equipment, ideal for a vintage interior, music collection, shop display or period film and theatre prop.
