A charming small Japanese earthenware pot, richly hand-painted in the Satsuma style with a delightful figural scene featuring seated figures in traditional robes. This squat, rounded pot is adorned with raised enamel decoration (moriage) and fine gilding, featuring a vivid red-orange and pastel palette. The surface exhibits attractive crazing throughout, consistent with age. While it does not bear a maker’s mark, the decoration and form suggest it was likely made in the early 20th century, during the Meiji Revival or Taisho period, when Satsuma-style export wares were popular.
Condition: Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Some minor losses to the enamelling and gilding, particularly on raised areas. Base shows age and wear.
