This wonderfully decorative trumeau mirror has all the old-world romance you want for a statement hallway or bedroom. The painted wooden frame is finished in deep bottle green with worn gilt highlights and twisted gilt side columns, topped with a frieze of lively putti carrying garlands of fruit after a Baroque original. Above the cherubs runs a simple foliate border in gold, giving the whole piece a charming, slightly rustic continental feel. There are knocks, small paint losses, touch-ins and cracks to the gilding, plus wear to the edges and corners and plenty of age to the glass – exactly the sort of authentic, timeworn surface that makes this so good over a console, in a stairwell or as a focal point in a French country or cottagecore scheme.
