A handsome antique aneroid barometer by Gamage of London, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The instrument has a clear white dial with traditional weather indications ranging from “Stormy” through to “Very Dry,” together with a fine pressure scale and manually adjustable reference hand.

The brass bezel is mounted within a deeply turned dark wooden surround, giving the piece a substantial and attractive appearance. The dial is marked “Gamage London” and “Aneroid Barometer.”

The barometer is in good working order, with the needle responding correctly to changes in atmospheric pressure. There is expected age-related wear throughout, including tarnishing and spotting to the brass, scratches and marks to the wooden mount, and some light discolouration around the dial. Similar Gamage examples of this form are generally catalogued as late Victorian or early 20th century.

Measures approximately 26.5 cm / 10.4 inches in diameter.
