A charming antique French miniature mantel clock dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880–1900, with a movement marked AN Paris and a beautifully ornate gilt metal case featuring two winged cherubs.
The circular clock face is supported by a pair of sculpted putti beneath an elaborate floral crest. The figures rise from an elegant tapering pedestal decorated with flowing acanthus leaves, terminating in a moulded square base.
The miniature dial features Arabic numerals, decorative blue hands and a subsidiary seconds dial. The clock is marked AN Paris, a marking associated with French clockmaking of the late 19th century.
The case is richly decorated in the Rococo Revival tradition, combining classical sculptural figures with flowing botanical ornament. Its unusually small proportions make it a particularly appealing example of Victorian decorative horology.
The gilt metal retains an attractive aged finish, with areas of tarnishing, surface wear and rubbing to the gilding consistent with its considerable age.
