A wonderful early Ever Ready electric hand lamp dating to around the 1910s–1920s, housed in a compact wooden case with a large projecting bullseye lens and brass-toned metal carrying handle.

The original maker’s badge to the front reads “Regd Trade Mark Ever Ready - Made in England”. The sliding wooden rear panel removes to reveal the original battery compartment, contacts and internal fittings, while a small lever switch is fitted to the top of the case.

These early Ever Ready wooden hand lamps were made for portable use and examples of this general form were used as bicycle lamps, police lanterns and utility lamps during the First World War period and afterwards. A closely related Ever Ready wooden hand lamp in the Powerhouse Collection is dated circa 1920–1924.

A particularly characterful piece of early electrical history, with great decorative appeal for an industrial, military or vintage lighting collection.

Good antique condition with general scratches, rubbing, marks and wear to the wooden case, together with age-related tarnishing and wear to the metal fittings. The original rear panel is present. The electrical components are old and the lamp has not been tested, so it is sold as a decorative collectable rather than as a working light.
