An elegant antique aneroid barometer dating from around the late Victorian or Edwardian period, housed in a beautifully shaped mahogany case with fine decorative inlay.
The long wheel-form case is decorated with contrasting stringing, floral marquetry panels and circular sunburst paterae. A classical architectural pediment crowns the top, while the lower section contains a large silvered barometer dial with traditional weather indications including Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair and Very Dry.
A red-fluid thermometer is mounted beneath glass above the main dial. The rich mahogany has developed a warm colour and patina, making this an especially attractive decorative piece for a hallway, study or traditional interior.
There is general age-related wear, including light surface marks, scratches and some old paint marks to the reverse. In good working order.
Measures approximately 99 x 25 cm, or 39 x 9 7/8 inches.
