A wonderful late Victorian to early Edwardian doll’s tricycle or rickshaw toy, dating to around 1890–1920.
The piece has a wonderfully characterful handmade construction, with a blackened metal frame, spoked wheels with wooden rims, turned wooden handles and an intricately woven wicker passenger seat. The crank and pedal arrangement remains in place, giving it the appearance of a miniature working cycle rickshaw rather than simply a decorative model.
The combination of bent and riveted metalwork, wooden components and aged wickerwork is very typical of late 19th-century toy construction. An unusual survivor with a strong folk-art quality and plenty of decorative appeal.
It measures approximately 43 cm long × 25 cm high × 22 cm wide (16.9 × 9.8 × 8.7 inches).
It is in good antique condition overall with wear, oxidation, marks and signs of age throughout, all consistent with its age and use. Please see the photographs for the best indication of condition.
