A striking antique Chinese bronze ding vessel in the archaic taste, likely dating from the Late Qing to Republic period, though potentially earlier. The piece is cast in heavy bronze with pronounced taotie-style mask motifs and geometric decoration inspired by ancient ritual bronzes of the Shang and Zhou dynasties.
The vessel stands on four cylindrical legs and features opposing upright loop handles, with a deep square body and richly cast relief decoration across all sides. The surface has developed an excellent aged patina with areas of oxidation and mineralisation throughout, particularly within the interior, giving it a wonderfully excavated archaeological character. The underside and construction show genuine age and wear consistent with an antique bronze object rather than a modern resin reproduction.
An evocative and highly decorative piece that works beautifully as a scholar’s object, planter, incense vessel, or sculptural interior accent. Particularly suited to the current fascination with wabi sabi, dark academia, maximalist interiors, and collector-led eclectic spaces.
Condition is commensurate with age, with heavy surface wear, oxidation, casting irregularities, and age-related marks throughout as shown. Please study photographs carefully.
Measures approximately 18 x 21 x 13cm.
